Virginia McKenna to roast new Born Free espresso blend.

We may be a small company, but we are grown up enough to realise that our business affects communities at both ends of the coffee bean supply chain. This is why since year dot our commercial strategy has been closely entwined with our ethical and sustainable policy. 

What do you mean not fair!

I was asked last week by a potential customer (now a new customer – welcome Richard) why don’t we have anything to do with FairTrade. I replied because in our view it’s not fair. 

New roaster seems at home

The new roaster seems at home. We have now been roasting on our new Loring for just two days – no time at all and needless to say we still have lots to learn so at present we are just following our old Probat roast profiles - but the results on the Loring when roasting to the same profile is remarkable: in fact, outstanding.

Our farmers are having a lot of trouble this year with coffee rust, which is said to have been spreading during the 2012 rainy season in Central America, with our friends in El Salvador as the worst hit country. We thought you may find this interesting.
