The coffee Bugisu which is grown on the slopes of Mount Elgon gets its name from the Bugisu people, a tribe of the Masaba nation of Eastern Uganda who live mainly in Mbale District of Uganda on the slopes of Mount Elgon.
The growing elevations are from 1,400 to 1900 meters situated on the slopes of Mount Elgon. Masaba is the local name for Mount Elgon.
This particular Bugisu coffee is like no other we have tasted in the past presenting more body with a lower acidity – very soft almost velvety although it retains a rustic fruit tone like a Kenyan and some earthiness you would find in a Sumatran, quite a complex cup.
The coffee is grown on small farms where it is the women that take the main responsibility for growing the coffee, which in most cases provides the family with the only source of a cash income. The coffee is wet processed and dried on raised beds
