A little known coffee - from a problematic area - with a great personality.

Githima is a muddy, ramshackle town north-east of Nairobi, where barefoot women barter vegetables for clothes and a motor vehicle still means almost unimaginable wealth.

Githima borders the Rift Valley, Central Kenya and is situated on the outer suburbs of one of the largest towns in Kenya, Nakuru. Nakuru is popular due to the nearby Lake in Nakuru National Park which is known world-wide for its huge congregations of flamingos.

This coffee was bought on the basis of its cup profile alone and in the absence of any precise supporting information on provenance.

When buying through the auction system, it can be difficult to gather detailed information on the precise provenance of a coffee. Some estates are well known, such as Gethumbwini, but it is not always possible to achieve complete traceability on all Lots from smaller obscure growing areas. However, the situation is changing as the market in Kenya matures– both through the auction and the new licensed marketing agents.

Lovely sweet coffee from Kenya. Very aromatic and not at all bitter. Perfect when you need a gentle morning brew.
