Cup profile and tasting notes

The cup exhibits - rich, mellow and sweet-ish weighty mouthfeel - fusty, toasty flavour notes poke through in the mid range and a background that could be spoiling for a fight – in some respect we think it’s similar in the cup to slightly aged Indonesian coffee.

But be careful it’s a bit like Marmite - lots of you tell us you love it, some of you hate it – if you loved it then you’re not be disappointed by this Lot as we believe it’s the best we've cupped

Per 250g pack - not the usual smaller 227g

The Bibi Plantation is located in a prime Arabica coffee growing area - the natural conditions are extremely good for Arabica coffee.  Usually the area  has an even distribution of rain fall.  But, of course, good natural conditions only go so far; unless you put the effort in they mean little. So the secret is simple - careful management of a favourable natural situation.

Monsoon Malabar is a unique coffee grown at 1000 to 2000 meters above sea level – It’s a significantly larger Arabica bean named after the region and  the area's rainy season contributes to the beans’ higher moisture content.

Aged on the Malabar Coast in open warehouse structures which allows the moist tropical air to blow through the storage areas, but protected from the battering monsoon rains - all to replicate past transportation by clipper ship.

To create a ‘monsooned’ crop, the green coffee is given a 2-3 month period in this state of storage while the beans absorb moisture.  The moisture  absorbed softens the natural acidity and at roast time a richer yet mellower beverage results.

For us Monsooned Malabar has become an indispensable component in many of our fine espresso blends – where it lends weight, body and its unique bold flavour.

Monsoon Malabar is not a coffee I've been taken with, but I tried this coffee at a friends last week and I love it - must all be in the roast - not over roasted, some oils to be seen. Very deep and intense espresso... well done.

To whoever (I think it was Gary) thanks for helping me out with what coffees to order and the time you spent concerning my order. Just great customer / personal service in particular, given the Christmas rush, the delivery was very prompt.

The feedback from friends on the coffee has been wow !
